LifeStation GPS Medical Alert and Smartwatch 2022

Last Updated on January 17, 2022

Looking for an updated medical alert with no range restrictions? LifeStation has two choices that may fit the bill.

Most of us are familiar with how a medical alert button works. It’s an SOS button we push during emergencies to connect us to help quickly. Traditionally, these are necklace buttons that work only while we are at home.

With advancements in technology, more and more seniors have been gravitating towards mobile systems with unencumbered ranges. In June 2021, LifeStation introduced two new mobile medical alert devices. An updated version of a smartwatch with a round face began shipping towards the end of 2021.

The standard medical alert system includes a neck or wrist button that is paired up with an in-home two-way speaker base unit. The main drawbacks are that these buttons appear somber and most only work at home.

Consider situations when you a distance away from home, where the speaker base unit is located. An emergency call could go through, but you would be too far away to speak with the operator and let them know where you are.

LifeStation’s newer mobile or on-the-go button devices come complete with a speakerphone inside them for two-way communication. They work anywhere with good AT&T cellular phone signals. Unlike standard medical alert systems, the voice ranges of these devices are not limited. There is no separate at-home desktop speaker unit.

Mobile Medical Alert with GPS – Sidekick

LifeStation’s Sidekick mobile medical alert offers a breath of fresh air into the mobile alert devices marketplace. Unfortunately, most mobile devices tend to be block-shaped and slightly bulky, making them somewhat unattractive to use.

Pint-Sized and Stylish

The Sidekick medical alert not only features an award-winning design, it is also smaller and lighter than most other similar devices. Compared to the previous version of LifeStation’s mobile medical alert, this latest version is more pint-sized and stylish.

We like these improvements – the lightweight and good looks make it more comfortable and pleasant for customers to use the product. So often, when it comes to product use, being willing to get into the habit of wearing a medical alert button is half the battle. The attractive form factor here scores high and makes a practical difference.

Through the mobile pendant device, seniors can connect to an emergency monitoring center through the AT&T 4G LTE wireless network. No cellular phone subscription is needed for this to work.

No Cell Phone Subscription Needed

Whether you currently use AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, or any other wireless service, it makes no difference. The LifeStation mobile medical alert works independently in a standalone arrangement. It will not sync up with any personal cell phone plan subscription.

Cost Compares Well

The cost of using the LifeStation Mobile Medical Alert starts from $38 per month. The cost of ongoing device use is already included in the monthly fee. A number of their top competitors require customers to pay for their devices upfront; but with LifeStation, you do not need to pay and purchase the device upfront. This pricing compares well with the pricing of other mobile medical alert systems (see chart).

Medical Alert Smartwatch

Smartwatches make popular dress accessories these days. LifeStation’s new medical alert button blended within the format of a smartwatch could be a game-changer. A lot older adults are familiar with the idea of wearing a watch. If someone is switching to this from another watch, they do not have a habit of wearing a watch, there is no extra device to concern themselves with.

SOS Button

The smartwatch has a help button that can be pushed to activate an alert call. Once you push and hold, the watch will dial into LifeStation’s monitoring center. With a two-way speaker embedded inside the watch, we can speak with the operator through the watch.

GPS Location Tracking

As a smartwatch, it comes with a few extra functions beyond the SOS button. Firstly, it will track the location of the watch using GPS. That means that if the watch wearer presses the button for help and does not know their location, LifeStation’s operator will be able to look it up; and send help if needed.

Watch Location Finder

What’s even better is that LifeStation has a Text-to-locate service for caregivers. Concerned family members will be able to receive the location of their loved ones by texting to a particular number (unique to them) that LifeStation provides. This GPS location and texting feature is available with the Sidekick medical alert pendant described above as well.

Heart Rate and Steps Counting

Other than that, LifeStation’s smartwatch will also measure heart rate and count steps like a pedometer. It is a standalone device and will not be able to sync up with an existing cell phone or cell phone plan. Therefore, whether you have a cell phone or not makes no difference to setting up and using this watch. It works separately.

Cost is Fair

The cost of having LifeStation’s medical alert watch starts is $44 per month, inclusive of 24/7 monitoring. There are no equipment or activation fees. Compared to other similar medical alert watches, the price appears just right. LifeStation doesn’t charge you for the watch upfront. Essentially, the watch is on loan to paying subscribers.

In Summary

Seniors and others now have more outstanding options when it comes to getting a suitable medical or emergency alert device. LifeStation’s two recent additions combine attractive form factors with the company’s reliable Five Diamond certified monitoring service on the back-end.

Whenever emergencies occur, customers can push their SOS button to be connected with a trained monitoring operator. As a bonus, family members and caregivers can also receive GPS location updates through LifeStation’s Text-to-locate service (included at no extra charge).

Overall, these mobile medical alert products provide assurance to both elderly customers and their family members. If you have additional questions, please call LifeStation at 1-866-260-2696, or visit their website here.
